Verney Close Red Cross Centre finds new use
Following the opening of the newly refurbished and extended Well Street Centre (Buckingham Opportunities Centre) last year, I was concerned that Bucks County Council did not have any immediate plans for the closed Red Cross Centre. Given its central location, I was keen for it to retain some kind of community use, and I was delighted when a short-term deal was agreed and today it has re-opened as The Centre @ Verney Close. Operated by the parish church, it will provide a range of services and will add to the advice and support available in the town. I was pleased to discuss the new facility with the Bishop of Buckingham Rd Revd Dr Alan Wilson and Buckingham MP Rt Hon John Bercow at the opening.
Padbury Brook river maintenance
I was pleased to meet the Environment Agency yesterday as they undertook some much needed river bank maintenance on the Padbury Brook on both sides of the A413. I will be keeping up the pressure on the EA for future plans for upstream maintenance on the River Great Ouse.
Swan Pool & Leisure Centre re-opens
I attended the opening of the newly refurbished and extended Swan Pool and Leisure Centre this morning. The £2.6 million project, including a new fantastic climbing wall facility, provides a superb facility for Buckingham and surrounding villages, and is operated by Everyone Active for Aylesbury Vale District Council. I was delighted to meet British Olympic hopeful triple jump athlete Nathan Fox at the official opening.
