Moving to Facebook

Thank you for visiting my website. My updates are now being posted on my Facebook page as it is easier to keep up to date when out and about.

Town Centre Pavements

If you’ve been doing your Christmas or New Year shopping in Buckingham over the last few days, you will have spotted some strange marks on some of our pavements. I am delighted to report that following successful campaigning, I have secured pavement repairs from Transport for Bucks and that these are scheduled for February/March time (subject to weather).

Primary School Admissions

Starting school or moving up to Junior School in September 2018 in Buckinghamshire? You are now able to apply for your child’s school place if they are due to start school in September 2018 or are due to move from infant to junior school.

The application deadline is 3pm on 15 January 2018 so don’t delay. See the county council website for details.

Buckingham What’s On

There is a oft-repeated myth that there is nothing to do in Buckingham. As a result of many conversations to highlight the vast array of events that go on week-in week-out in the Buckingham area, I decided to set up a new What’s On service to try and raise awareness and exposure for all these great activities, making use of the event tools in Facebook. I do hope you find it useful and please feel free to email in future events. Details also on the website if you don’t use Facebook!

Christmas Lights

The Buckingham Christmas lights were switched on last Sunday in an event organised by the Town Council. It was great to sing some carols with the hundreds of people who turned up, assisted by the Winslow Concert Band and Glee Club, together with a great chocolate themed Christmas story by the Salvation Army. It was also particularly nice to see the tree with a star for the very first time, provided by the Women’s Institute following their fundraising this year. Thank you and a very Merry Christmas!

Remembrance Sunday

It was a great honour to represent the County Council at the annual Buckingham Remembrance Parade. We were very lucky for a dry and clear day, albeit very cold.

Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan

The Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan Proposed Submission is the latest draft of the Local Plan to be published and has been approved for publication and will open for public consultation from Thursday 2 November to Thursday 14 December 2017. Following this, the responses will be collated and submitted along with the Plan and supporting documents for examination by an independent planning inspector. You can find out more on the AVDC website.

Given the proposals in Buckingham and Maids Moreton, I would urge residents to review this draft plan, and to take part in the consultation.

Moreton Road Missing Footpaths

I met with Buckinghamshire County Council officers and the town council clerk last week to discuss options on how we can improve pedestrian and cycle safety on Moreton Road, in particular the access to bus stops. I will be keeping pressure on the council to find a solution.

Affordable Warmth Network

I was pleased to meet the Affordable Warmth Network last week – a really helpful advice service for people worried about heating bills. They can help with:

Moreton Road Zebra Crossing Complete

I was delighted to be able to make use of the newly completed zebra crossing at the north end of Moreton Road this week, making the access between Twickenham Road and Maids Moreton School so much easier and safer.
